Educators
Laura is a registered midwife and nurse and is a mother to 3 beautiful children. She has worked in Sydney and Canberra in all varieties of the midwifery scope. She says, "In my early days as a midwife in 2011, it was obvious to me those who had embraced the Calmbirth course. The confidence, the teamwork, the experiences I observed blew me away. "Pregnancy, birth and parenting are life changing experiences for a woman and her partner. I believe that Calmbirth provides a solid foundation for a positive experience and life skills going forward. The physical and emotional journey are respected and techniques to work with this journey are embraced.
When to do something and when to do nothing
Birth Stories
Birth and time in labour can be and often is, different for every woman & baby for many different reasons. When we take time restrictions away, when we take our own expectations of how women “should be” progressing with charts and partograms, when we have a known Midwife and a relationship with the woman, when the woman gets to choose the people in her birth space and where she births, Birth unfolds exactly as it is needed for that woman and baby.
Book Review : The Birth Map
Birth Preparation
I’d heard of birth plans but I’d never heard of a birth map or birth cartography until I was listening to episode six of The Calmbirth Conversation podcast featuring Catherine Bell, author of “The Birth Map”. I was inspired and intrigued and I knew I wanted to know more so I read the book and I am so glad I did. I love seeing birth plans in my patients files but reading this book has changed the way I talk to couples about how to document their informed decisions for their care and what they need to know when navigating the hospital system
I truly LOVED my birth!
Birth Stories
After weeks of experiencing very intense Braxton hicks contractions that were often consistent and relentless and baby’s head being engaged from about 30 weeks both of us and my OB were sure I was going to go into labour before my due date (25th Jan) However, our little man wasn’t quite ready to come yet. It was the plan with my OB due to health reasons that we wouldn’t let the pregnancy go more than a week over so although I was hopeful to go into labour spontaneously, I had a planned induction at 41 weeks.
Testimonials
Calmbirth was everything I thought it was going to be and more. What I didn't expect was how safe I felt with my husband Nathan, how loved and cared for I felt with him and how connected I felt to him afterwards. We came out with a shared responsibility of the birth and feeling more like a team! We felt more excit

Just wanted to share the great news. Josh and I welcomed Lacey Marie into the world at 8:40 on June 10th. She arrived early at 36.6 weeks after my waters broke at home. She was still breech which meant a cesarean. But we are both really good. Lacey passed her birth weight on day 5 and feeds so well.

Wonderful! I was apprehensive prior to attending the course that it may have been unrealistic and would take a extreme approach to only birthing naturally but was pleasantly surprised at how realistic the education was and how well it could be implemented into my birth experience. That your body knows how to birth.

Carmel is lovely, confident and knowledgeable. She made the experience very enjoyable, she was welcoming, relaxing and very hospitable.I know if I had not done the course I would have been at the hospital as soon as they started and know medical intervention would have happened as I would have been scared.
