Getting To Know Calmbirth Educator Laura Tieppo
Educators
Laura is a registered midwife and nurse and is a mother to 3 beautiful children. She has worked in Sydney and Canberra in all varieties of the midwifery scope. She says, "In my early days as a midwife in 2011, it was obvious to me those who had embraced the Calmbirth course. The confidence, the teamwork, the experiences I observed blew me away. "Pregnancy, birth and parenting are life changing experiences for a woman and her partner. I believe that Calmbirth provides a solid foundation for a positive experience and life skills going forward. The physical and emotional journey are respected and techniques to work with this journey are embraced.
When to do something and when to do nothing
Birth Stories
Birth and time in labour can be and often is, different for every woman & baby for many different reasons. When we take time restrictions away, when we take our own expectations of how women “should be” progressing with charts and partograms, when we have a known Midwife and a relationship with the woman, when the woman gets to choose the people in her birth space and where she births, Birth unfolds exactly as it is needed for that woman and baby.
Book Review : The Birth Map
Birth Preparation
I’d heard of birth plans but I’d never heard of a birth map or birth cartography until I was listening to episode six of The Calmbirth Conversation podcast featuring Catherine Bell, author of “The Birth Map”. I was inspired and intrigued and I knew I wanted to know more so I read the book and I am so glad I did. I love seeing birth plans in my patients files but reading this book has changed the way I talk to couples about how to document their informed decisions for their care and what they need to know when navigating the hospital system
I truly LOVED my birth!
Birth Stories
After weeks of experiencing very intense Braxton hicks contractions that were often consistent and relentless and baby’s head being engaged from about 30 weeks both of us and my OB were sure I was going to go into labour before my due date (25th Jan) However, our little man wasn’t quite ready to come yet. It was the plan with my OB due to health reasons that we wouldn’t let the pregnancy go more than a week over so although I was hopeful to go into labour spontaneously, I had a planned induction at 41 weeks.

What an incredible weekend and AMAZING experience we have had with Bec this weekend. wow, just wow! I wasn't sure I'd learn much having laboured twice before but I have taken away so much new, refreshed and updated knowledge and feel so much more positive about creating the right birthing journey for us
Courtney Betterridge
Bec was a constant reassurance for us & she truly did empower us as a couple to really beleive in ourselves as we 100% knew what we were doing to birth our baby using the Calmbirth techniques. Bec always had the right words of encouragement & reminded me to just feel into & through my body

Our weekend with Bec was amazingly powerful for both my wife and I. Our so many unanswered questions and fears of the unknown made us nervous about the birth of our first child. But these fears have disappeared after attending the Calmbirth. With knowledge come empowerment
Peter Fowler
Thanks Bec for all your guidance and providing a supportive environment over the weekend. My partner and I feel more confident and relaxed about the pending birth. The techniques we learnt for the different stages of labour are going to be most beneficial to us.

As very busy couple it is hard to find time to not only learn as much as possible about the birth but to also gauge a feel for what will work best for us as a couple and that’s exactly what we got from this weekend. We would highly recommend any expecting couples take the time to attend and experience this weekend

Bec is an amazing guide through the Calmbirth principles and how they can positively impact on your birth journey. We found that it helped to reassure and change our mindset on the birthing process, whilst encouraging more appreciation of each partners role during labour. Highly recommended.

We found the course very helpful in preparing for our baby’s birth and really enjoyed the weekend. I had three days of “false labour” and found the meditations and the “toolbox” list very helpful in this time to keep myself busy and to deal with the prolonged early stage of labour!
Keely Tucker
Her calming and grounding manner and extensive knowledge of birth is the best way to prepare for the journey into birth and motherhood. After weeks of practicing with the guided meditations I was able to go to my zone and birthed a whopping 4.8kg into the water and drug free .

A weekend of meditation, visualisation and learning the physiology of birth as well as how to be supportive as a partner leading up to and throughout the birth. Bec is such a lovely lovely educator, just a wonderful human being. I would highly recommend to all expectant mothers and their partners.

Bec was able to be flexible to fit our crazy timetable and the information that we learned and the techniques shared have left us feeling completely confident and empowered for our birthing experience. I really feel like this is a must for women and their partners to guide us to have a positive birth experience.
Sarah Grant
The Calmbirth techniques were my saving grace to get through the frightening bits, the painful bits, and the recovery bits. The techniques, the mind frame and the time with my partner in a space that was 'held'. I dont jnow how i would have got through the parts that i was most fearful of without Calmbirth.
Zoe Tiernan

I had heard good things about Calmbirth from friends, but Bec's teachings, warm and welcoming personality made the weekend far better than i could have expected. If you do one thing in preperation for your baby, invest in yourself and your relationship by doing this course. It is SO worth it.
