I have practiced as a midwife for 30 years and can honestly say I still really love what I do. My happy place as a midwife is in a birthing room, walking alongside women and their families as they navigate their own birthing journey. Every birth is unique, and I am so honoured to be among the privileged few who get to bear witness to this as part of my job. I have practiced mainly in rural areas including Ayers Rock, Chinchilla and Roma. After 4 years in Toowoomba at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, I spent 2 years travelling Australia working in different maternity models, working out where we wanted to settle now our children have left home. We are now in Goondiwindi, Western Queensland, working in the Goondiwindi Maternity Group Practice.

I am a Midwife, Registered Nurse, Child Health Nurse and a mother of 3 beautiful children (now all young adults.) As a midwife one of my passions has always been the education of women and their families. I firmly believe that knowledge is power. Birthing and parenting are brand new skills, so it only makes sense to have as much knowledge as possible.

Calmbirth has reignited my passion for childbirth education because it is evidence based, and it combines knowledge and practical tools. Importantly it emphasises the importance of the mind body connection and how this affects labour. This enables pregnant women and their support people to feel confident in their birthing abilities and gives them the knowledge to make informed decisions during the pregnancy, birth and beyond.

When a couple leave my class saying “we are so excited about the birth, we can’t wait”, I really feel like I am achieving my goal, of “changing the world one birth at a time.”
