Getting to know Calmbirth Educator Ashlee Anslow

Educators

Ashlee is a registered nurse, and registered midwife.

“In my work I’ve handled hundreds of high risk births, and more recently have practised in a smaller rural centre. For many years I have referred people to Calmbirth as I saw the amazing outcomes of women who had been educated by the program. In fact, as a midwife I chose to attend the program myself, along with my husband, when we were expecting our first child.

I”‘m also a mum to twin boys and, between all the kids, my husband and I are kept on our toes. A few years ago, we relocated to the Kanimbla Valley as a family to pursue a desire to live a slower, sustainable life. I will be running Calmbirth courses on our property, where we live off-grid and produce most of our own food, and on-site accommodation will be an option for Calmbirth participants.

“I really look forward to sharing our lifestyle with people as they are empowered on their own birth journeys.”

My Name is… Ashlee

I work at …Lithgow District Hospital.

My life in 5 words…lliving life with family and farm.

The best place about where I live…the view and the quiet (when the kids are in bed).

What I do to relax when I’m not working…grow vegetables, gardening, make cheese, salami, milk our cows and generally manage our farm.

I can’t live without…my family.

The person or traits I most admire is…wisdom, integrity, honesty and gratitude.

What I love most about being a Calmbirth Educator…I have been wanting to become a Calmbirth educator for years and am so excited that it is all finally coming to fruition. I wholeheartedly believe in the Calmbirth philosophy and love how empowering it can be for families!

If I had to describe my own birth experiences in 3 words… both my births were empowering and exhilarating despite being completely different experiences

The 3 essential things you need to take with you into labour are…your support person, good food, and a willingness to surrender.

My most memorable moment at as Calmbirth® educator…I love seeing the moment for couples when it just ‘clicks’ for them and they really start to understand the birthing process and what they can actually do to make it the best experience possible.

A favourite quote… “The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth” Proverb

If I had to describe how seeing a baby being born makes me feel...to takes my breath away every time even so many years and hundreds of births later
