Getting To Know Calmbirth Educator Christine Girdham

Educators

Christine is a registered midwife, registered nurse, a neurodevelopment consultant and an immuniser.

“I have an amazing little boy who is the highlight of my life. One of my most memorable accomplishments was presenting at the International Lactation Conference in San Antonio Texas in 2010. I love adventure, being outdoors, spending time with family and friends and filming. I won a prize with my first short film I made.

“My passion in life has always been caring for and empowering families and individuals in Australia and overseas. I have nursed in many different areas including paediatrics, paediatric cancer ward, NICU, adult med./surg. and now midwifery. My diverse experience has given me the opportunity to view life and everything in it from many different lenses and that there are many ways to approach our life journeys. Calmbirth mimics my values and beliefs and for this reason I have proudly joined the Calmbirth educator team. It is truly a privilege to be able to help empower birthing couples to approach their birthing journey with greater understanding, less fear and anxiety and increased confidence to have a positive experience during one of the most important times in their lives. “

My name… is Christine Girdham.

I work at…As a midwife at Blacktown hospital.

My life in 5 words…Always adventurous and never boring.

The best thing about where I live… is that it’s close to everything.

What I do to relax when I’m not working…Do outside activities with my son.

I can’t live without… my family and friends.

The person or traits I most admire… is a friend in Canada.

What I love most about being a Calmbirth educator…To help empower couples so they can have the most positive birthing journey

The 3 essential things you need to take with you into labour are…believe in yourself and that your body can do it, embrace the pain as it’s your body’s way of guiding you through  the birth journey, think of your labour/birth plan as a map as it can change direction at anytime.

My most memorable moment as a Calmbirth educator…to see couples feeling empowered for their upcoming labour/birth journey rather than fearing it.

A favourite quote…Giving birth should be your greatest achievement, not your greatest fear.

If I had to describe how seeing a baby being born makes me feel...It makes me forget about any worries I have in my personal life. Every birth is unique and every birth is truly amazing and uplifting.
