Jess is a midwife, yoga instructor and lover of the great outdoors! She was born and bred in Perth, and is fascinated by all things mind, body and birth related, and I LOVES to share her knowledge, passion and understanding about the miraculous experience that is pregnancy and birth.

She says, ” As a midwife I have the privilege of supporting thousands of couples as they embark on the incredible journey into parenthood.  I have seen first-hand how Calmbirth empowers couples with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate labour, birth and life as parents with confidence. Which is why I became a Calmbirth Educator. I wanted to find a way I could provide as many people as possible with the understanding and tools required to create a transformative and empowering birth experience and start parenthood as strong, present and connected.

My name…Jessica Oma

I work at…I’ve spent my midwifery career at Perth’s primary maternity hospital working in low & high risk settings and midwifery group practice. I also teach in the School of Nursing at Notre Dame University, and run yoga classes at various studios across Perth. 

My life in five words…Connection, family, yoga, adventuring outdoors.

The best thing about where I live…The space! And our beaches. I may be biased, but I really do think we have the best coastline in the world! 

What I do to relax when I’m not working…I head straight to nature with my partner and puppy! We tend to get a bit ‘itchy’ if we haven’t been out exploring. The coast, the river, the bush…anywhere we can go to escape the hustle and bustle, immerse in the space and soak up mother nature’s incredible beauty.

I can’t live without…Cuddles…nothing feels better than a big, warm and connected cuddle! And the sunshine…I am happiest with warm sunny days!

The person or traits I most admire is…My partner. He is the epitome of integrity, has this sparkly, adventurous spirit and just the biggest, kindest heart which he shares with everyone. He brings a lot of light to the world and inspires me to be the best version of myself everyday.

What I love most about being a Calmbirth educator...As a Calmbirth Educator I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work closely with couples and to provide them with knowledge and practical tools that allow them to feel awe for their incredible body, trust in the birth process and to approach their birth feeling prepared. There is nothing better than seeing couples go on to apply their learning and create a positive birth experience, and to see them start life as parents feeling strong, present and connected.

The 3 essential things you need to take with you into labour are…A birth team who make you feel safe, supported and strong. An open mindset that has trust in your incredible body’s ability to birth. A plan for what YOU need to help you remain calm, connected and clear when faced with challenge

If I had to describe how seeing a baby being born makes me feel...I get full body goosebumps just thinking about it. I feel awe. Complete and utter awe. At the wonder of nature, the power of the female body, and the ‘miraculousness’ of life.
