“My passion to become a midwife and Calmbirth educator stems from my own births as a young woman. I have three beautiful children but I approached each of their births with fear and anxiety, and I believe it was fate that some years later I applied and was accepted into nursing school .
It took me five years of medical / surgical nursing before I was happy to spend some time on the maternity ward assisting the midwives, as I had no wish to place myself back into the labour ward. However, one quiet afternoon I found myself being the observer to a labour and birth…….I was astounded at the way the birth unfolded……..It was woman centred care……so much had changed…….and that moment in time changed my life. I was then driven to gain my midwifery degree, and from there it was another step to become a Calmbirth educator.
Childbirth education is my passion, and my goal is to empower the birthing families in my community to birth fearlessly and with confidence”.
My name is…Robyn Moore.
I work at…Echuca Regional Health, Northern Victoria, as a Registered Nurse, Practicing Midwife and Antenatal Educator. I am also a registered Calmbirth Educator, offering regular Calmbirth classes in Echuca and surrounding districts.
What I love most about being a Calmbirth Educator…I LOVE my job….I love everything about the Calmbirth program and being a Calmbirth Educator. Most of all I love the confidence that the couples express following the completion of the program- the confidence and knowledge to birth their baby with anticipation and joy. Equally, I love hearing of the wonderful birthing stories from the couples after the birth of their babes.
My life in five words… Surrounded by my loving family.
What I love most about where I live…The beautiful warm weather and sunshine.
The three essential things you need to take with you into labour are…A supportive partner. Confidence in your ability to birth your baby, and an endless supply of Oxytocin.
What I do to relax when I’m not working is…Spending time with my family and friends. Swimming, reading and long walks with my 4 legged companion.
If I had to describe my own birth experience in three words I would describe as…Forever life changing.
My Most memorable moment as a Calmbirth Educator is… I receive many wonderful texts, emails and baby pictures, but one memorable moment was when I received a beautiful email from a mother who had attended my classes (due to a previous long and very traumatic labour and birth experience) who went on to have a wonderful quick and natural birth fearlessly and with confidence. Part of the email read “I would actually say that my labour was something amazing and I felt like a warrior woman when I birthed my gorgeous son”. I would love for all birthing women to feel like warrior women!
I can’t live without… My family.
The person I admire most is…I admire those who show friendship, compassion and empathy to those in time of need. “Your greatness is not what you have, it is what you give”.
The best advice I ever got in my life was…“Focus on the things you can change, and let go of the things you can’t”.
