I like to remind women that they have the knowledge and power to birth, they just need support and preparation to have more trust and faith in their own bodies. Why I love and I’m so passionate about the Calmbirth program is because it is evidence based, and provides skills  – not only for labour, birth and early parenting, but for life!

My Name is… Sarah Tooke.

I work at …The Mater Hospital at North Sydney and ‘Sarah Tooke Childbirth & Parenting Education.

My life in five words… Busy (probably more crazy!), fun, loving.

The best thing about where I live is…Dural is semi-rural but still only 40mins from the city. It has become ‘foodie’ heaven with lots of local fresh produce available and places to eat out. It also has a friendly village community feel.

What I do to relax when I’m not working…Spend time with my 2 boys, my husband and extended family, swim/relax by the pool, read a good book, listen to music, cook and enjoy a glass of wine.

I can’t live without… my family.

The person I most admire is…. I can’t narrow it down to one person – I have so many mentors and inspirational people in my life, but I have an even greater new found respect for my own Mum since giving birth and now parenting my own children.

What I love most about being a Calmbirth Educator…Being able to support expectant parents to use their own skills to have a positive birth experience regardless of how they give birth. I like to remind women that they have the knowledge and power to birth, they just need support and preparation to have more trust and faith in their own bodies. I like providing a course which is evidence based and provides skills not only for labour, birth and early parenting, but for life!

If I had to describe my own birth experiences in 3 words… Sorry, I can’t narrow it down to 3… intense, empowering, instinctive, incredible.

The 3 essential things you need to take with you into labour are…your support person, an open mind, a heat pack.

My most memorable moment at as Calmbirth® educator…Witnessing the complete state of relaxation achieved by the meditation and their new knowledge transform into confidence and excitement for their upcoming birth.

A favourite quote… “Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making Mothers – strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength” – Barbara Katz Rothman

If you had to describe how seeing a baby being born makes you feel… in awe, privileged, grateful and blessed (and sometimes a little clucky!)
