Getting to know Calmbirth Educator Jenna Troy

Educators

We are so pleased to announce that Calmbirth Educator, Jenna Troy, will be joining Karen, Peter and Jessica in the Southern Highlands Calmbirth Centre in Mittagong to teach our highly acclaimed and trusted Calmbirth program.

Jenna is a Registered Nurse and Midwife who has enjoyed working in all areas and facets of Maternity but has found birth suite her calling.

“Having seen the difference first-hand in the labour and births of Calmbirth couples full of empowerment, self belief and positive energy, I was naturally drawn to attending the program with my husband for our first pregnancy. The entire experience was so transformational for me personally but also as a couple entering parenthood, that signing up during our second pregnancy for a refresher course was a no-brainer”.

Jenna found that Calmbirth was the best labour and birth preparation and attributes her two incredibly empowering births to her Calmbirth knowledge and skills.

“It was everything we didn’t know we needed. While we can’t control how our labour and birth plays out we can control our headspace and this is something my husband and I worked on closely together. We connected like never before which made us all the more excited to begin our family life together. I honestly wish it was compulsory for all pregnant couples. I believe Calmbirth is life changing!”

With Jenna’s passion and enthusiasm to teach others during this sacred time in their lives, she jumped at the the chance of becoming a Calmbirth Educator herself.

“I am honoured to be teaching this amazing program alongside Karen and Peter in the Southern Highlands in Mittagong. As well as being able to bring this incredible program to the township of Goulburn where I live, and cannot wait to see the positive ripple effect it will have on others. It’s everything we deserve as new parents and for our baby’s first welcome into the world”.

My Name is…

Jenna, or you can call me Jen

I work at…I was working up at Goulburn Base Maternity before going on maternity leave. In the last 3.5 years I have had two babies (a beautiful pigeon pair) and during this time I have just soaked up being a stay at home Mum. Time is precious and as we know it all just passes by too fast so I haven’t felt really ready till now to chase my dream of being a Calmbirth Educator. I am so excited! I’m ready!

My life in five words…family, love, nature, happiness, positivity

The best thing about where I live is…definitely the people! It’s the people that make a place and I find Goulburn people to be largely down to earth, community minded and family centred.

What I do to relax when I’m not working…you’ll find me at home with my family eating wholesome food, enjoying a slow day together and moving between one happy messy activity to the next (because…toddler life)

I can’t live without…my family (and they would tell you food – I love,  love, love food)

The person I most admire is….This is a tricky one because there are so many (professionally and personally) however in the wonderful world of Midwifery it would have to be Ina May Gaskin. She is a leader in maternal health and believes wholeheartedly in the power of women birthing their babies, the need to protect this sacred space and surrounding ourselves with love (and therefore oxytocin!!) during labour. She is the authentic Midwife and I find her totally inspiring. I also identify with many of her beliefs and her passion for women centred care.

What I love most about being a Calmbirth Educator…is knowing I am changing our current culture of fear around birth to one of birthing with confidence, one couple at a time. Some might say this is a giant task but I believe in the ripple effect of positivity. When you cast a stone into the water, the ripples begin to expand and travel outward. It’s also true of positive birth stories and experiences. My heart feels so happy knowing I am helping shape a couples labour and birth experience in such a positive way which also sets the tone for their parenting journey ahead. It’s a wild adventure and an exciting ride!

If I had to describe my own birth experiences in 3 words…calm, transcendent & transformational

The 3 essential things you need to take with you into labour are…Your Calmbirth skills, the love of your support person or partner and your sense of discovery! (this makes me want to do it again!!)

My most memorable moment at as Calmbirth® educator…was when one of my gorgeous Calmbirth couples BOTH fell into such a deeply relaxed state during a script reading that I had trouble bringing them out of it. I tried multiple times to bring their awareness back out into the room and came close to giggling out loud because it surprised me just how long it took. I almost resorted to touching one of them on the arm when they came out of it. I felt like a hypnotist!

A favourite quote”If a woman doesn’t look like a goddess in labour, then someone isn’t treating her right”– Ina May Gaskin

If you had to describe how seeing a baby being born makes you feel…..it truly is the only time in this life that you are guaranteed to witness a miracle. Each and every birth! You can’t help but be completely moved by that. It’s highly emotional and awe inspiring. An absolute privilege!
