“Although Leo’s birth did not go according to our plans, it was a wonderful and such a special experience for Rod and I. In fact, out of the three of my births it was definitely the most positive. I was up and walking within two hours of him being born and have felt so strong and calm ever since.”
My husband Rod and I attended the workshop on the weekend of the 15th and the 16th December. You may recall we were expecting our third child and were feeling quite anxious.
After doing the Calmbirth program Rod and I felt empowered. We both felt so much more relaxed from that point and were able to calmly await the arrival of our baby while doing the Calmbirth meditations and reflections.
I’m pleased to let you know that our beautiful baby boy Leo was born on Friday 11 January at 8.42 pm. Leo was in a real hurry once he decided he was coming into the world. From my first contraction to the moment he was in my arms was less than an hour! In fact, he came so quickly we did not have time to make it to hospital and I delivered him in our car on Moss Vale Road. After just one push Rod delivered Leo’s head and cleared his airways. The paramedics then arrived, took over from Rod and after another push Leo was earthside.
Although Leo’s birth did not go according to our plans, it was a wonderful and such a special experience for Rod and I. In fact, out of the three of my births it was definitely the most positive. I was up and walking within two hours of him being born and have felt so strong and calm ever since.
During the short time that it took for Leo to enter the world Rod and I both used the techniques we learnt at the Calmbirth workshop. I used both the breathing exercises and visualisations. At one point, just before I pushed I remember my leg being outside of the car and concentrating on the raindrops falling on my leg, which really helped me to stay focused, be calm and not be afraid of the situation I found myself in.
If we hadn’t done the Calmbirth program I truly believe that Leo’s birth could’ve been frightening and not the positive empowering experience that it was. Because of what we had learnt, Rod and I knew from my first contraction that I had moved straight into the transition stage as the contractions were straight off between 2-1.5 minutes apart.
Thank you so much Peter for teaching Rod and I so many important birthing skills over the weekend we attended the Calmbirth Program. We will never forget what we have learnt from you.
Attached is a photo of Leo on his way home (about 36 hours after his birth. Leaving hospital early was a dream of mine after having to stay in between 4-5 days after the births of my older children), with my older children Annabel and Tom. As you can see they were very, very excited. Leo has slotted right into our family and we can’t imagine life without him.
Thank YOU Calmbirth!
