I am a mother of three and a registered midwife practising at Queanbeyan Hospital. The foundation for my work with families during pregnancy and birth began with the birth of my first son in 2001. Following this transformative and empowering experience I worked as a consumer advocate for maternity services in Central Australia and began my training as a nurse and midwife. My interest in Calmbirth began whilst working with women during labour who had attended a Calmbirth program; I saw that they were able to approach birth with openness and confidence. I became hooked after sitting in on a Calmbirth class. I witnessed the transition couples went through as they moved from a place of anxiety and fear to excitement and confidence. Calmbirth can make a wonderful contribution to preparation for birth, regardless of your background and regardless of what path your birth journey takes you on.
Birth is the beginning of new life, not only for a baby but for his or her parents as well. To enter into the world surrounded by calm, confidence and love is a great gift that Calmbirth offers new parents and their babies.
