In mid 2024 we found out the exciting news that we were expecting our first child. I knew early on that I wanted us both to be well educated about pregnancy, types of births, labouring and the postnatal stage. Everyone I knew recommended Calm Birth, so it was a no brainer for us. The two day course provided us both with a wealth of knowledge on everything baby and pregnancy related, labouring tips & tricks as well as a positive mindset leading into labour.
At 40weeks + 3 days, I was induced due to minimal fluid around baby and dropping centiles. I always knew labouring wasn’t going to be a holiday but in my mind I knew it was a beautiful yet painful process I needed to go through to meet this tiny human. Once started on the syntocinon, the contractions came hard and fast, with each breath I reminded myself what Karen had taught us “each contraction brings you closer to baby”. I went from labouring in the bath, to the bathroom then finally onto the bed (which was not where I expected to be comfortable, but was).
Using the Calmbirth breath work techniques, James squeezing my hip pressure points, him helping me stay hydrated and regularly encouraging me to move labour positions, after 2hours and 45mins we welcomed a very healthy happy baby girl.
My goal was to always birth unmediated purely because I’ve always wanted to allow my body to experience the labour sensations and entrust that it knew how to birth a child. I feel so empowered that I achieved my goal, with the assistance of implementing the Calmbirth techniques, having James’s full support and knowing he could make decisions on our behalf whilst I focused on and listened to my body. I look back on this special day and reflect on how calm, composed and focused we both were. An amazingly positive, empowering journey and experience that I can’t wait to do all over again. We would highly recommend the course to any soon to be parents.
Thank you again and we’ll likely see you back for the refresher course when we have baby number two!
Best wishes Stacey and James
