Kat is a Registered Midwife since 2015 and has been facilitating childbirth education classes since 2017. Perinatal education is where her passion lies and truly believes that with Knowledge comes Confidence! She says, “my passion for education has led me to Calmbirth and I am so glad it did! What an amazing, mindful, oxytocin inducing program!
“The Calmbirth course truly encompasses all of my own core values and beliefs, as Calmbirth’s ultimate goal is to empower women, promote wellness, create new understandings, and increase confidence, so that women may experience a positive, calm and joyful birth, however they give birth.”
She is looking forward to bringing Calmbirth to the Hawkesbury this year and she will be conducting weekend group classes (over two consecutive days) and private classes as requested.
“I love how the Calmbirth Program has the amazing ability to reduce new parents fear and anxiety around childbirth and increase their confidence in a woman’s ability to birth their babies, by simply tapping in to the natural resources they already posses. I also love how it emphasisies the important role that partners play in supporting pregnant mothers, and how partners can feel more connected and confident in their role throughout the wonderful jounery of pregnancy, labour and birth.”
My Name is… Katherine Aquilina, but everyone calls me Kat.
I work at…Blacktown Hospital in the Women’s Health Clinic doing antenatal appointment and childbirth education.
My life in five words…surrounded by people who love me!
The best thing about where I live is…we have plenty of space for the kids to run around, we live nice and close to family and friends and we are part of a wonderful community.
What I do to relax when I’m not working…I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, exercising, caravanning with the family.
I can’t live without…my family and friends.
The person I most admire is….all the mum’s out there who do it all, no matter how hard it gets and how much they need to juggle, they keep everything going!
What I love most about being a Calmbirth Educator…being able to truly engage with couples, eliminate fears, build confidence and share in a small part of their journey towards parenthood.
If I had to describe my own birth experiences in 3 words… Rewarding.
The 3 essential things you need to take with you into labour are…a clear mind, an open body and an acceptance of the process of labour and birth.
My most memorable moment at as Calmbirth® educator…spending the weekend with a wonderful group of couples that attended one of Karen McClay’s classes. Through this experience I was able to consolidate my learning and build my own confidence in my practice.
A favourite quote… “Just Breathe”.
If I had to describe how seeing a baby being born makes me feel… Amazement! At the birth process, at the strength of the woman, at the resilience of the newborn, and at the admiration that the partner has for his/her birthing partner, and how the whole room fills with love and pure joy!
