Imogen is a registered nurse, midwife, mother, and a Calmbirth educator.
“As a Calmbirth Educator, my passion is to empower couples with the knowledge and tools they need to approach birth with confidence, calm, and connection. I believe that birth is a powerful, transformative experience, and through the Calmbirth program, I want to help you shift your mindset and overcome fears, allowing you to experience it in the most positive way possible.
“My goal is to create a space where you can feel supported, informed, and ready—no matter what your birth plan looks like.
Whether you’re a first-time parent or preparing for another birth, my goal is to guide you through techniques that promote relaxation, trust, and communication. I want to help you feel supported, informed, and fully present throughout your birthing journey, so you can embrace it with confidence and create the birth experience you’ve always hoped for.”
My Name is...Imogen Hughes (I’m married now so my new surname is Fudge).
I work at…Naracoorte hospital, in the maternity and acute wards.
The five words that describe my life would be...Busy, family orientated, fun and happy.
The best thing about where I live…The calm country lifestyle, fresh air and beautiful beaches just an hours drive away. I love the small-town living, the calm and quiet of the country, originally from Adelaide I appreciate the slower paced life-style in the South East.
When I’m not working and have some spare time I love…Head to the beach to stand up paddle board, caring for our small veggie patch, walks and spending time with my family.
I can’t live without...Coffee!! Love a good coffee to start my day!
The trait I admire most in others is…The person I most admire is my mum, she raised me to be their person I am today, as well as my four younger siblings, (yep, five kids!). She has all the traits I admire in a person, kind, generous, patient, supportive and strong.
What I love most about being a Calmbirth educator is...I’ve only just begun my Calmbirth educator journey, but so far I have loved getting to know couples in the most exciting time of their lives. Being a small part of their journey to parenthood is such a privilege I will always be grateful to have.
If I had to describe my own birth experiences in 3 words…Humbling, empowering and surreal.
Three essential things you need to take in to labour are...Confidence, a good support person/persons, and knowledge.
The most memorable moment I’ve had as an educator...Most memorable right now, is becoming registered! A big achievement for me, that allows me to teach all the couples how to be confident and have a positive birthing experience.
A favourite quote…‘The temptation to quit will be greatest just before you are about to succeed’ – Bob Parsons
Reminds us to keep on going! When transition comes, when a challenge in labour presents itself, our temptation to quit or give up can be overwhelming, but it is only a sign that the biggest reward is so close, you are about to meet your baby.
How does seeing a baby being born make me feel...Crying tears of happiness! I am always so proud of the women and their partners, no matter of the mode of birth, it is the most amazing time to be privy to
