At Calm with Mae, I believe birth is about so much more than welcoming a new baby — it’s also about empowering women and families with knowledge, trust, and inner strength.
As a midwife with eight years of experience, I combine the evidence-based techniques of Calmbirth® with a holistic, heart-centred approach. My goal is to help you and your birth partner feel informed, connected, and supported as you prepare for birth, regardless of how your journey unfolds.
Join me for a Calmbirth® course designed to nurture your mind, body, and spirit. Together, we’ll explore practical tools that help you trust your body, understand the birth process, and approach birth with greater calm, confidence, and peace.

My name is…
Mae Qiao-Yang
I work at…
Mater Mothers’ Hospital, Brisbane.
What I love most about being a Calmbirth Educator…
Supporting couples to prepare for birth together and watching them grow in confidence as a team.
My life in five words…
Learning, Loving, Growing, Trusting, Evolving.
What I love about where I live…
Being surrounded by incredible food and staying close to my family and friends.
The three essential things I’d take into labour are…
I like to keep things simple: water, nourishing snacks, and comfortable clothes that help me feel relaxed and at ease in my space.
What I do to relax when I’m not working…
I love spending a quiet evening at home with my partner, watching Netflix or Disney and unwinding together.
My most memorable moment as a Calmbirth Educator…
One couple came to class carrying the weight of a previous traumatic birth experience. After the course, the father shared how empowered he felt by the practical tools he had gained to support and encourage his partner during labour. It was a beautiful reminder of how transformative preparation can be for both parents.
I can’t live without…
Spice! The hotter the food, the better.
The person I admire most is…
My partner. I deeply admire his dedication to the people he loves and his genuine kindness. He has a wonderful way of making others feel seen and valued.
The best advice I’ve ever received…
“You can’t control the waves, but you can learn how to ride them.”
If I had to describe how seeing a baby being born makes me feel…
Every birth feels like witnessing something extraordinary. It’s the moment a family grows and a new chapter begins. There is often excitement, vulnerability, strength, and overwhelming joy all at once. I find myself wondering about all the beautiful memories, laughter, and love that family will share in the years ahead.
