Getting to know Calmbirth Educator, Steph Kreinberg

Hello!

I’m Steph – a wife and a mother of two young boys, Oscar and Louie. I am a Registered Nurse & Midwife and Registered Calmbirth® Educator teaching on the Mornington Peninsula, VIC.

For more than 10 years, I’ve worked as a midwife across all areas of maternity at a large tertiary hospital in Melbourne. As a midwife and mother, I understand the intensity, unpredictability and life-changing nature of labour and birth — and how important quality antenatal education is in preparing for it.

As a midwife caring for couples who had completed the Calmbirth® program, I was continually inspired by how informed, calm, and empowered they felt throughout their birth experiences, regardless of how their journey unfolded.

When I became pregnant with my first child, my husband and I completed the Calmbirth® program ourselves. We left feeling informed, confident, and supported. My husband gained practical tools and clarity around his role during labour, which eased many of his fears — and mine. It also allowed me to step out of my “midwife brain,” trust the process, and surrender to the experience.

We went on to have a calm and empowering birth experience. Yes, it was intense and hard work, but with the right support, tools, and environment, I felt safe, calm, and capable. After that experience, I knew I wanted to help other women and couples feel the same confidence and empowerment going into birth.

I look forward to helping you approach labour and birth feeling empowered, supported, and excited. My hope is that you will learn to trust in your body, feel confident in your choices, and have a positive and empowering birth experience — however your journey unfolds.

Get to know me!

I work as…a Nurse and Midwife in a very busy tertiary hospital in Melbourne. I love that we get to see normal birth and also have exposure to caring for women and their babies in complex medical situations. It is such a privilege to be apart of someone’s birthing journey and being able to make a meaningful difference.

My life in five words…Mother, Family, Nature, Content, Blessed.

What I do to relax when I’m not working…Go for a walk, cuddle my kids, listen to a podcast, have a cuppa, go to the beach.

I can’t live without…Family, quality sleep and coffee!

The person or traits I most admire is…kindness and authenticity.

What I love most about being a Calmbirth Educator…Helping couples feel confident and excited about labour and birth and meeting their baby.

If I had to describe my own birth experiences in 3 words…Calm, Supported, Transformative.

The 3 essential things you need to take with you into labour are…

  1. Support person/team who know you, your preferences and create a positive environment for you.
  2. Knowledge about labour and birth, so nothing comes as a surprise.
  3. Trust in your body and intuition.

My most memorable moment as Calmbirth® educator… Couples realising how powerful their mind is and what their body’s are capable of.

A favourite quote…“Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life” – Dolly Parton

If you had to describe how seeing a baby being born makes you feel…Incredibly special, it blows my mind every time I get to witness a baby coming into this world.
