Birth Stories

Story By Telina Dowler

Calmbirth gave me the tools to believe in my body and baby and know that they would work together for a positive outcome.
My husband sat beside me the entire time rubbing my back, holding my hand, or giving me water when needed. He also encouraged me to move and change position although, i was most comfortable on my side or on the toilet. It gave him the confidence to tell the midwife’s my requests and support me in anyway he could.

I cannot thank Karen enough for the knowledge and confidence it gave me to have such a positive birth. I can’t wait to do it again
My waters broke, well slowly broke on Thursday the 6th of April no contractions I actually didn’t think it was my waters. I continued my day until a friend said to go and get it checked at the hospital. So off I went they confirmed they had broken and to go back in later that night for antibiotics. I returned at hospital at 12am, still no contractions and still not believing I was in Labour.

Antibiotics administered at 2am. At 7am my husband returned to hospital still no contractions and at 8.30 a midwife came and said let’s get this show on the road. It was then I realised I was being induced and the anxiety kicked in but so, did the breathing techniques from the Calmbirth course which i used the entire time.

The midwifes kept asking how much pain I was in as I was showing no signs, I believe I went into a state of hypnosis. At 5cm dilation Bubs heart rate dropped, and they mentioned c-section, but the oxytocin was turned down and it returned to normal. At 8cm I asked for the gas. I had a cervical lip which they needed to lift and told me to stop pushing or vaginal birth would be out of the question.

I concentrated on my breathing once again.
I didn’t want to give birth on my back, so they rolled me to my side and with one last push, Timothy Robert Dowler was born 8.14pm on the 7.4.23 good Friday at exactly 39w he was 2.79kg and 49cm.

I had no tears or grazes and one of the first things said to me was you got your monies worth from Calmbirth.
