We are so excited to announce that Calmbirth Educator, Jessica Cuneo, will be joining Karen and Peter in the Southern Highlands Calmbirth Centre in Mittagong to teach our highly acclaimed and trusted Calmbirth program.
Jessica is a Registered and practicing Midwife, and a Registered Nurse specialising in Paediatrics.
“I have always had a passion for women and birth, and strongly believe that pregnancy and birth are pivotal moments within a women’s life. A woman’s experiences of birth, how she felt and how she was supported can affect many areas of life and motherhood. I feel this applies to partners too”
Working as a Registered Midwife in a busy Birthing Unit, Jessica found herself struggling to encourage and empower women who feared labour and birth, to trust in their body’s ability to birth their baby.
Her own experience of pregnancy, led her to further her knowledge to achieve her own, calm and empowering birth. Jessica and her husband attended the Calmbirth program, and loved that Calmbirth was evidence based and practical.
“Calmbirth is the information so many couples are missing to quell the cultural fear and anxiety of birth! I believe when couples understand the physiology and psychology of birth, fear is eliminated and confidence flows”
Returning to work after her son, Jessica vowed to become a Calmbirth Educator to share the invaluable knowledge and practical tools Calmbirth provides. “Teaching Calmbirth really comes from my heart. I truly believe with the right information and mindset, all couples can experience an empowering labour and birth.”
“I love that I get to be a part of such a vital shift in our culture of birth”
My Name is… Jessica Cuneo
I work at… Liverpool Birthing Unit and Campbelltown Birthing Unit
My life in five words… birth, toddler, family, love, health
The best thing about where I live is… the growth, the community of young families and the parklands! Camden is a beautiful historic town, full of blooming jacarandas and cosy cafes. It is close enough but far enough away from busy Sydney, and less than an hours drive to the beach.
What I do to relax when I’m not working…I love to have the opportunity to do a meditation (Toddler life) or honestly catch up on new research and books related to pregnancy and birth!
I can’t live without… My family.
The person I most admire is…. There are many, though two within the world of midwifery stand out.
Ina May Gaskin, for the art of, the passion and extensive knowledge of midwifery.
Hannah Dahlen, for being such a strong voice/advocate for women, choice and birth. Her passion, her determination and her resilience is inspiring.
What I love most about being a Calmbirth Educator… the absolute transformation in couples knowledge and attitudes towards birth. I love being apart of the positive shift in birth culture… The constant feedback from couples fuels my fire and reaffirms the power of Calmbirth. I also love how Calmbirth has crept into all areas of my life. The tools you learn at Calmbirth are tools for life, not just for birth.
If I had to describe my own birth experiences in 3 words… incredible, empowering and all consuming
The 3 essential things you need to take with you into labour are…
- Support
- Complete confidence in yourself and birth
- Your Calmbirth toolbox!
My most memorable moment as Calmbirth® educator…A partner/ father coming out of a meditation, absolutely blown away as to where he just went. He could not stop raving about the incredible sensation of relaxing throughout the meditation.
A favourite quote… ‘A factor in labour is the intense sensations. It is beyond the expectations of anyone who has never given birth. The intense sensations is simply a part of the whole, and when there is no fear, it simply is. It is nothing more, nothing to be afraid of, nothing to waste your time and energy fighting against ‘ Osho
If you had to describe how seeing a baby being born makes you feel…..A moment frozen in time. It is a utterly beautiful feeling witnessing a new life come into the world
