Calmbirth® is the only childbirth education program that requires all its educators to be practising midwives or trained birth professionals
I began teaching Calmbirth in Geelong in 2006 having already been a Midwife for 10yrs. It has complimented my practice as a Midwife and excites me as an educator to see how this course shifts old unhelpful and often fear based views of birth and empowers women /couples to prepare for and approach birth positively. Nobody can predict exactly how a birth will unfold, or if the end result will be a natural birth or a caesarean birth. Calmbirth helps couples prepare for the twists and turns that birthing may take and come away from their birthing day feeling positive. The techniques taught can be applied to all situations, the focus always being on helping the woman to feel calm, safe and supported. Partners have said on the morning of Day 1 of the course that they feel like a tradie with an empty toolbox , unsure of how to help, but by the end they have loads of tools to help get the job done.
My classes are respectful, inclusive and open to all and I welcome diversity in families, culture and beliefs.
In Geelong my group workshops are held in a beautiful old house known as The Birth House, a purpose built space where women and families come for education and where low risk women can choose to hire a midwife and give birth in the Birth Retreat out the back. I offer Calmbirth workshops monthly on weekends and Monday evenings continuously throughout the year. Private sessions are available at my education space in Portarlington. Melbourne couples can now catch the ferry from Docklands to Portarlington where I can collect them. Several couples have seen this as an opportunity to have a baby moon weekend away. The benefit being one on one attention, catering specifically to your individual needs and greater flexibility around course dates. Also very beneficial if a previous birth was traumatic.
