My name is Katrina Ham and I am a Midwife/Registered Nurse and Calmbirth Educator.
Firstly I would like to Congratulate you and your partner on the wonderful and exciting journey you are about to embark! As a Midwife and Calmbirth Educator I am passionate about educating women and their partners to allow them to create their own positive birthing experience. I believe a woman’s pregnancy and birth to be a very significant yet natural event. Therefore if given knowledge and understanding through education, can prepare them to approach pregnancy and birth with fearless confidence. I have been privileged to witness many couples that the Calmbirth program has had a positive impact on since becoming an educator. I am both proud and honoured to have had the opportunity to be apart of a number of those moments as an educator and a Midwife.
It is particularly rewarding to observe the couples as they employ their new life skills and create amazing memorable experiences that will remain with them forever as a family . I am excited and eager to support you and your partner in any way through your journey should you choose to undertake this program as part of your preparation.

Birth Stories
I decided to do birth classes as I started to get quite nervous & also I wanted my husband to know how to best support me as I have heard some sad stories. Despite the footy grand final being on the first day, my husband attended the Calmbirth class with me. We were both so happy and grateful we got recommended to Katrina because we both left each class feeling empowered and confident for any situation that we could be faced with!
Remember there are NO - ‘dumb questions’ – just one you don’t have an answer to right now.
Birth Preparation
A lot of the fear around birth and birth trauma today comes from fear of the unknown, lack of knowledge, feeling of being out of control, feeling things were ‘done to you’ and questioning consent, which in turn leads to us feeling inadequate, failing, traumatised, etc. These are very valid feelings and it is recognised more and more – however instead of questioning yourself and considering you have failed perhaps start with an unanswered question and JUST ASK, even if it is after the event and you need clarity and understanding therein allowing you to have a better comprehension of your experience and being better prepared for what is necessary for your future, should you need counselling, ongoing care, preparation for future births.
