Hello! I’m Sophie, a practicing registered nurse, midwife and founder of Bloom&Birth, a space where I provide Calmbirth education classes in Yeppoon and Rockhampton. I have the privilege of working across the entirety of the childbirth continuum inclusive of antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal spaces including special care nursery. The nature of my job has given me experience in most birthing scenarios and more importantly, has given me the ability to support and educate women from all walks of life through their individual birthing journeys. While I love every aspect of my job, my passion lies in providing antenatal education and care within the birth suite, supporting and guiding families through the life-changing experience that is childbirth.

The profound impact that antenatal education can have on the birth experience is what ultimately led me to becoming a Calmbirth educator. Through Calmbirth education, I’ve witnessed families transform their approach to childbirth, fostering a sense of calm and confidence amidst the journey. Every family has the right to evidence-based information that supports informed decision-making, which is crucial in reducing fear and in experiencing a deeply empowering birth. As a midwife I love seeing families work through these fears and access/develop their innate resources, resilience and strength to birth their babies.

This information is not just about the physical aspect of birth, but helps women in feeling connected to their values, their choices and to their partners throughout the entire experience. It helps birth partners to realize their importance in this process, who also deserve a positive experience. In creating a supportive environment, my goal is to create a community where families can connect both before and after their birth journeys.
