We would like to introduce our daughter Ilaria Vazquez, born on 30/01/26 at 6:05pm weighing 3.355 kilos and 49cm long. My waters broke on my due date 28/01 and started to slowly leak (I didn’t realise it was my waters- just thought it was a little wee each time as she was head down and, on my bladder,). We ended up going into hospital to check and they said it was a slow leak of my waters and I needed to be put on antibiotics straight away as we didn’t know exactly when they ruptured. I was told I wasn’t going anywhere and would need to be induced in the morning.
That night at 12am in hospital I started spontaneous labour with contractions, and they were not kidding around! They started as 5mins apart and then quickly turned into 1-2 minutes apart. They were painful and super consistent, but I was able to breathe through them, move through them and be supported by Nicolas in each and every way (I could not have done that without his support and encouragement and everything we learnt from Calmbirth).
I managed to go 9 hours naturally without any pain relief at all but in the morning, I wasn’t dilated too much and opted for an epidural as I still needed to be put on the drip so my body could rest and have some energy for pushing. It was a decision I made and stand by it as it really did help my whole experience.
After dilating to 10cm, I pushed for one hour and my baby girl was here. I had a great birth with only 2 internal stitches- no tearing or anything which is a testimony to my obstetrician, she was so fantastic.
We honestly have no words; the experience is so surreal, and our bodies are just incredible. My husband was fantastic and supported me in ways I didn’t even know were possible so thank you Karen for teaching us everything you did in Calmbirth because it truly did help us. Good luck to all of you and I can’t wait to see more babies!
